I found this necklace at Forever 21 and snatched up it real quick. It’s so freakin’ cute!

As much as I admire crafty people, I am probably the anti-Martha Stewart. I like pretty things…I’m just too lazy to make them myself. But I guess Martha must have possessed me for a quick minute, because the other night I found myself making these bulletin boards. I got the idea from a magazine and thought it looked SO COOL. I basically just emptied out two frames I got at a rummage sale, and popped in some cork board covered with pieces of material from a scarf I don’t use anymore. I was pretty damn proud of myself.
This project was homework from my Artists Way course. The task was to list five alternate lives (like, what I would be if not a writer) and then do something related to one of those lives. One of my alternate lives was to be an interior designer. So, there you go.
My other alternate lives were: fashion stylist, painter/illustrator, musical theater actress, and musician. It was fun to imagine all the things I could do in life. What would you do in an alternative life?

While Melissa and I were walking around downtown, she pointed out these trees that had been knit bombed. Apparently, graffiti knitting is a thing, who knew? Kinda awesome.

Perfect way to unwind after a hellacious kind of week. One of my favorite parts of the movie (Becoming Jane) is when dude comes to propose to Jane and she suddenly steps away and starts writing in her journal, as the others look on,confused. I’ve been known to do that.
We finally hung our dream boards up this week.
Steve and I have made dream boards (a.k.a. vision boards, inspiration boards), individually and sporadically, over the past decade. At the end of 2010, we decided to make our dream boards together on New Year’s Day, to ring in 2011. We invited my brother and niece to join us, and it was so much freakin’ fun. We took pictures of our finished boards and posted them on Facebook. Well, we received such a positive response that we decided to make it a New Year’s tradition and invite others to join the fun. New Year’s Day 2012, ten of us were spread out around my little house making art out of our goals and dreams.
While we all had a great time, I’ve been noticing more and more how New Year’s resolutions have gotten a bad rap over the years. People like to dismiss and poke fun at resolutions because they say no one ever keeps them. Resolutions are forgotten come February, they say. And I say, bullshit. I might make twenty goals for the year and only accomplish ten of them. Do I feel like I failed? Uh, no. I’m like, Hell yeah I accomplished ten goals this year.
That said, here are my goals for 2012…and beyond:

I split my board up into six areas of focus: faith, family, health, creativity, work and style.
Faith. I think of faith like an inner peace that centers me in every area of life, so I chose a zen-looking image and phrases that remind me to live simply and peacefully.
Family. Two major goals I have for my family life is to 1) go on more adventures and make amazing memories, and 2) make our house into more of a home and not just a roof over our heads.
Health. “The gift of cooking.” I hate cooking. But this phrase I clipped made me start looking at it as more of a gift of health to my family and to myself. Also, a gift of looking cute in skinny jeans.
Creativity. I don’t know what’s going to happen in my future with writing or design. I don’t know if I’ll ever make an actual career of it. All I can do right now is keep making things I love, and focus on that.
Work. Since I don’t know what’s going to happen in the future, my “day job” is the only job I have right now…so really, I need to stop viewing it as a day job. I need to change my attitude, be thankful I have a job, and do my best.
Style. “Be the girl you were too lazy to be yesterday.” ‘Nuff said.
